FabFilter Pro-L 2 is a professional limiter and loudness metering plugin built for mastering and final mix processing. It combines transparent limiting with comprehensive loudness measurement tools and surround support up to Dolby Atmos 7.1.2.
Eight Limiting Algorithms
Each algorithm serves a different purpose. Transparent delivers the cleanest limiting with minimal artifacts — ideal for classical and acoustic mastering. Punchy preserves transients for drum-heavy material. Dynamic adapts its behaviour based on the incoming signal. Allround covers general mastering needs. Aggressive pushes loudness harder at the expense of subtlety. Modern suits contemporary pop and electronic music. Bus glues stems together. Safe provides a gentle ceiling for broadcast work.
The real-time level display shows exactly what the limiter is doing at every moment — incoming signal, gain reduction, and output level in a scrolling view that makes it easy to identify problem peaks and find the sweet spot between loudness and dynamics.
Loudness Metering
Pro-L 2 supports all major broadcast standards including EBU R128, ITU-R BS.1770-4, and ATSC A/85. Target specific LUFS values and monitor integrated, short-term, and momentary loudness readings. The metering alone makes Pro-L 2 worth having in your mastering chain even before you engage the limiter.
True Peak Limiting
Inter-sample peaks cause distortion in playback systems that standard peak meters miss. Pro-L 2's true peak limiting ensures your masters never exceed the target ceiling, catching these invisible peaks before they become audible problems. Professional dithering with multiple noise shaping algorithms handles the final bit-depth conversion.
Surround and Immersive
Full Dolby Atmos support handles formats up to 7.1.2, with configurable channel linking. This makes Pro-L 2 relevant for film, broadcast, and immersive audio mastering alongside traditional stereo work.
