Overview

GearBook (gear-book.app) is a music gear price research tool. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site and how it is handled.

Information We Collect

GearBook does not require you to create an account or log in to use the service. However, some optional features involve collecting personal data:

  • Email address — collected only if you choose to subscribe to price alerts or the monthly market report. See the Email Subscriptions section below.
  • Search queries — logged anonymously for analytics purposes (query text, timestamp, country derived from IP, referrer). No personal identifiers are stored.
  • Local preferences — recent searches, view settings, and subscription preferences are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and never sent to our servers.

Email Subscriptions

You may optionally subscribe to receive gear price alerts and our monthly used market report. When you do:

  • We collect your email address and store it in our database (Supabase).
  • We use Resend to send emails. Your email address is processed by Resend as a data processor on our behalf. See Resend's privacy policy.
  • The legal basis for processing is your explicit consent, given at the point of subscription.
  • Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also manage or remove your subscription at any time via the bell icon on the site.
  • You have the right to request complete deletion of your data. Email us at hello@gear-book.app and we will remove your record from our database within 30 days.

Third-Party Services

GearBook retrieves pricing data from the following third-party platforms via their public APIs:

  • Reverb — active listings and sold price history
  • eBay — active listings (Browse API) and sold items (Finding API)
  • Frankfurter — live currency exchange rates
  • Supabase — database hosting for price history and subscriber data
  • Resend — email delivery for subscribers (only used if you have subscribed)

When you click through to a listing on Reverb or eBay, you are subject to that platform's own privacy policy.

Advertising

GearBook may display advertisements from third-party advertising networks. These networks may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your browsing activity across websites.

Affiliate Links

Some links on GearBook are affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. We work with affiliate networks and programmes including but not limited to:

  • Awin — affiliate network connecting us to retailers such as Reverb and others.
  • eBay Partner Network (EPN) — tracking parameters are appended to eBay listing URLs.
  • CJ Affiliate — affiliate network connecting us to music and retail partners.
  • Beatport Group Affiliate Programme — covers Beatport, Beatsource, DJcity and Plugin Boutique.

These affiliate programmes may use cookies to track referrals. The presence of an affiliate link does not influence our editorial content or recommendations. Please refer to the respective partner's privacy policy for details on how they handle your data.

Cookies

GearBook itself does not set tracking cookies. However, our third-party partners may set cookies when you interact with their services:

  • Affiliate networks (Awin, eBay Partner Network, CJ Affiliate, Beatport Group affiliate programme) — may set cookies when you click through to retailer websites to track referrals.
  • Advertising partners — if advertisements are displayed, ad networks may set cookies to serve and measure ads.
  • Vercel Analytics — anonymous, privacy-friendly usage analytics.

Your browser settings allow you to control or block cookies at any time. For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, we display a consent banner allowing you to accept or decline non-essential cookies.

Hosting

GearBook is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect standard server logs including IP addresses and request metadata as part of its hosting infrastructure. Please see Vercel's privacy policy for more information.

Children's Privacy

GearBook is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
