The Line 6 Helix is the flagship guitar processor that established Line 6 as a serious competitor to Fractal Audio and Kemper in the high-end amp modelling and multi-effects market. Released in 2015, the Helix Floor introduced a new HX modelling architecture, an intuitive touch-button workflow, and the kind of build quality and metering that gigging professionals had been waiting for from Line 6. Ten years on, the Helix family has expanded into a full product line covering every form factor from compact stompbox to flagship rack — and Line 6 has begun the next-generation transition with the 2025 Helix Stadium models.
The Helix's core value is its HX modelling — a from-scratch DSP architecture (not derived from Line 6's earlier POD platforms) that handles amplifier modelling, cab modelling and IRs, effects, and signal routing on a dual-SHARC audio engine (two Analog Devices ADSP-21469 chips). The factory amp library covers a comprehensive selection of guitar and bass amplifiers, and HX-format third-party IRs (impulse responses) load freely into the cab section. Effects models include Line 6's full catalogue plus algorithmic reverbs, delays, modulation, dynamics, and pitch effects. Total preset count is 1,024 — eight setlists × 32 banks × four presets per bank (A/B/C/D) — with each preset supporting up to 32 simultaneous processing blocks (amp + cab + effects) and eight snapshot variations for instant tonal recall within a single preset.
The Helix Floor — the original flagship and still the centrepiece of the product line — has 12 capacitive-touch footswitches with embedded LED rings (each footswitch shows the current state of whatever is assigned to it), a large colour LCD display, an expression pedal with toe-switch, and a comprehensive I/O panel: 1/4" and XLR outputs, 1/4" and XLR sends/returns for external effects loops, AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital I/O, USB for recording and editing, and dedicated MIDI in/out. The expression pedal can be supplemented with two external expression pedals via TRS jacks.
The Helix family covers multiple form factors. Helix LT is the cheaper floor version with the same DSP and library but with smaller chassis, fewer outputs, and no scribble strips on the footswitches. Helix Rack is the rackmount version (1U) requiring a separate Foot Controller for live use. Helix Stomp is a compact stompbox-format Helix with three footswitches and reduced DSP (six blocks per preset instead of 32). Helix Stomp XL adds three more footswitches. Helix Native is a software VST/AU/AAX version that uses the same model library on a computer. The 2025 Helix Stadium and Stadium XL are the next-generation flagship and represent the start of a generational refresh of the platform.
The pedal supports comprehensive integration: studio I/O at 24-bit / 96kHz with USB audio (8 inputs, 8 outputs to a DAW), full MIDI implementation including MIDI clock sync, scribble strip displays on every footswitch (Helix Floor / Stadium), and the Helix Editor desktop application for visual preset construction. Power is via included IEC cable (it is mains-powered, not battery), and the Helix Floor weighs around 6.6kg / 14.5lb in a roadworthy aluminium chassis.
Who Is This For? The Helix Floor suits gigging professionals, recording musicians, and players who want a comprehensive amp-modelling and multi-effects rig in one chassis. It is particularly well-suited to anyone running silent stages, fly-rigs, or studio rigs where carrying a real amp is impractical, and to players who use complex effects routing that would be unmanageable on a stompbox-based pedalboard. The Helix LT is the same DSP at a cheaper price for players who don't need the full I/O. The Helix Stomp and Stomp XL are aimed at players who want HX modelling on a regular pedalboard rather than a flagship floor unit. Players considering Helix should also evaluate Fractal Audio's FM3/FM9 and Kemper's Profiler — the Helix is the most user-friendly of the three but Fractal's models are widely considered the most accurate to the original amps.
