Boss RV-6 Reverb

The Boss RV-6 Reverb is one of the most capable compact reverb pedals Boss has produced, offering eight distinct reverb modes in the familiar stompbox format. Released in 2016 as the successor to the RV-5, it added three new algorithms — Shimmer, Dynamic, and +Delay — while retaining the studio-quality spatial processing that has made Boss reverbs a reliable professional choice.

Eight modes give the RV-6 considerable range. Hall and Plate deliver clean, transparent ambience suitable for any style. Room adds a smaller, more intimate spatial quality. Spring faithfully emulates the drip and splash of tank reverb found in vintage guitar amplifiers. Modulate adds gentle pitch modulation to the reverb tail for a shimmer-like movement. +Delay combines reverb with an integrated delay for a single-pedal ambient solution. Shimmer layers octave-up harmonics across the reverb decay for atmospheric, cinematic effect. Dynamic is an intelligent mode that reduces reverb when you play and swells it up in the spaces — an expressive option for clean playing.

True stereo operation — two ins and two outs — enables the RV-6 to integrate naturally into stereo rigs, spreading the reverb field wide across two amplifiers or the stereo returns of a mixing desk. An expression pedal jack allows real-time control over reverb depth, opening up swell effects and live ambience manipulation.

Three controls — Mode, Time, and Effect Level, plus a Tone knob — are sufficient to dial in any of the eight modes without requiring deep menu navigation. The Tone control shapes the high-frequency character of the reverb tail, useful for matching the reverb character to different amplifier timbres.

At the current used price point, the RV-6 consistently represents strong value for the quality of reverb on offer.

Who Is This For?

The RV-6 suits guitarists who want a comprehensive reverb palette in a compact format — from subtle room ambience through spring emulation to shimmer and ambient swells. It works particularly well in stereo rigs and for players who want one pedal to cover a wide range of tonal environments without compromise.
