The Elektron Analog Four MkII is a four-voice polyphonic analog tabletop synthesizer that combines a deeply specified signal path with Elektron's precision sequencing. Each of the four voices is a fully independent synthesizer: two multi-waveform oscillators, a sub-oscillator, a 4-pole ladder lowpass filter, a 2-pole resonant multimode filter, analog overdrive, two envelopes, two LFOs, and a noise generator. Oscillator sync, amplitude modulation, pulse-width modulation, and spectral noise add further texture. Four voices of that depth, controllable simultaneously, is a serious proposition.
Sequencer and Parameter Locks
The step sequencer is where the Analog Four becomes something more than a synthesizer. Each of the four synth tracks and the FX track runs up to 64 steps, with individual lengths and scales per track for polyrhythmic patterns. Parameter locks — Elektron's signature feature — let you set any parameter to a different value on any individual step: filter opens on step 5, waveform changes on step 9, envelope attack lengthens on step 13. Sound locks go further, assigning an entirely different preset sound to a specific step. A single track can morph between completely different patches within one pattern.
Trig conditions add probability and logic: triggers that fire only 50% of the time, only on the third repetition, or only when another condition is met. This transforms looping patterns into generative sequences that evolve without you touching anything.
Performance and Live Use
Eight performance macros map multiple parameters across sounds and effects to a single knob. One twist can simultaneously open the filter, push the overdrive, increase reverb depth, and modulate an LFO rate — the kind of expressive real-time control that defines live performance. A dedicated quick-performance knob gives instant access to any of the eight macros.
CV/Gate and Modular Integration
A dedicated CV/Gate track provides four CV outputs and DIN sync, making the Analog Four MkII a capable sequencer for modular and vintage gear alongside its own voices. Individual audio outputs for each voice allow separate processing in a DAW or mixing desk — the instrument sits comfortably in analog studio sessions as well as digital ones.
Who Is This For?
The Analog Four MkII is for producers who want synthesis depth and sequencing precision in a single device. It suits sound designers who push synthesis to its limits, performers who need expressive live control, and modular users who want an intelligent sequencer at the centre of their rig. The learning curve is real — Elektron's workflow rewards study — but what it gives back is unmatched. Factory patches from Richard Devine and Eraldo Bernocchi illustrate the range immediately out of the box.
