The KRK ROKIT 5 Generation Five is the current flagship of the ROKIT near-field range — a significant upgrade over the G4 that introduces three distinct voicing modes, a new silk dome tweeter, and a redesigned baffle. It's aimed at producers and engineers who want a versatile monitor that can shift character depending on the task at hand.
The headline feature is the three Voicing Modes. Mix Mode delivers a flat frequency and phase response for critical mixing and mastering. Create Mode is a warmer, more musical voicing suited to writing and producing sessions where accuracy matters less than inspiration. Focus Mode emphasises the midrange for detailed analysis of vocals and instruments. The ability to switch between these modes without reaching for separate monitors is a genuine workflow improvement over the G4.
The G5 retains the 5" woven Kevlar aramid fibre woofer from the G4 but switches the tweeter to a new 1" silk dome with a copper cap. This shifts the character at the top end — the G4's Kevlar tweeter had a more extended, slightly hard quality; the G5's silk dome is smoother and better suited to long sessions. The crossover sits at 2.27kHz with Class D bi-amplification: 35W for the woofer, 20W for the tweeter, 55W rated total (130W dynamic).
Room correction is handled by 25 boundary and tuning EQ combinations, adjustable via a single rear encoder and LCD display. The KRK App connects via Bluetooth for real-time spectral analysis and EQ recommendations based on your room measurement. A front-firing port and included acoustic foam wedge pads round out the placement flexibility — you can sit these close to a wall or on a desk without significant bass buildup.
The G5 also adds a low diffraction baffle design for improved stereo imaging, integrated mounting points for wall brackets, and includes magnetic grille faceplates for driver protection.
Who Is This For?
The ROKIT 5 G5 suits producers working in small rooms across electronic, hip-hop, pop, and home recording. The three voicing modes make it unusually versatile — you can produce and mix on the same pair without compromise. The KRK App lowers the barrier to proper acoustic calibration, making it a strong choice for anyone setting up a studio without the budget for a separate room correction system. At its price point, it competes directly with the Yamaha HS5; the ROKIT 5 is warmer and more forgiving, the HS5 flatter and more analytical — both are valid depending on your preference.
