The ADAM Audio A7V is the successor to the widely-respected A7X, a monitor that spent years as a reference point in project studios and professional facilities alike. The A7V refines the formula rather than reinventing it — adding DSP control, a new Multi-Layer Mineral woofer, a rotatable HPS waveguide and room correction integration, while carrying over the X-ART tweeter technology that ADAM Audio is known for.
At the heart of the A7V is ADAM's X-ART tweeter, handmade in Berlin. The X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) design uses a folded diaphragm that moves air four times more efficiently than a conventional dome tweeter, resulting in detailed high-frequency reproduction with low distortion and an extended response up to 45kHz. The A7V pairs this tweeter with a new rotatable HPS waveguide — an addition not present on the A7X — which improves off-axis response and allows the monitor to be oriented horizontally without losing the intended dispersion pattern.
The 7" Multi-Layer Mineral woofer is driven by a 90W RMS PWM amplifier, crossing over at 2.8kHz to the X-ART's 15W Class A/B amplifier. The MLM cone material is new to the A7V, replacing the carbon/glass fibre construction of the A7X. Frequency response extends down to 44Hz (-3dB) — adequate for most mixing tasks, though pairing with a subwoofer is worth considering for bass-heavy work in larger rooms.
The most significant architectural change over the A7X is the full DSP architecture. The A7X was entirely analogue; the A7V adds ethernet connectivity and ADAM's free A Control software (Windows and Mac), which lets you adjust EQ, delay, voicing profiles and room correction in real time from your listening position. The built-in Sonarworks SoundID Reference integration allows automated room correction to run directly on the monitor's DSP, without an additional software insert in the signal chain. Back panel controls remain available for those who prefer to keep things analogue.
Who Is This For?
The A7V suits producers and engineers in project or semi-professional studios who want a monitor with serious heritage and modern connectivity. The X-ART tweeter produces a detailed, extended top end that rewards critical listening — it's particularly well suited to mixing, mastering and post work where treble clarity matters. The Sonarworks integration and remote DSP control add genuine value in treated rooms where accurate playback is the priority.
Those on tighter budgets may find the T Series more appropriate, or consider used A7X units which still perform well. For mixing in larger rooms or bass-heavy material, pairing with ADAM's Sub10 MK2 is the natural upgrade path. For most home and project studio environments at nearfield distances, the A7V is one of the stronger mid-range monitor choices available.
