The Casio Celviano Grand Hybrid GP-310 is the result of a collaboration between Casio and legendary German piano maker C. Bechstein. It combines a genuine wooden grand piano action with Casio's digital sound engine to create one of the most authentic piano-playing experiences available in a digital instrument. If you want the feel of a concert grand without the size, maintenance, or price tag of an acoustic, this is where the conversation starts.
Keyboard Action
The GP-310's Natural Grand Hammer Action keyboard is its defining feature. The keys are made from Austrian spruce — the same wood used in C. Bechstein concert grands — with the same vertical hammer mechanism and pivot points as an acoustic grand piano. This is not a simulated weighted action; it is an actual hammer mechanism that sends a physical hammer along a vertical path when you press a key. The result is a touch response that feels remarkably close to a real grand, with the natural weight graduation from bass to treble that acoustic pianists expect. Five sensitivity levels (Heavy 2 through Light 2) let you fine-tune the response.
Sound Engine
Casio's Multi-Dimensional Morphing AiR Grand sound source powers three world-class concert grand piano voices: a Berlin Grand (based on C. Bechstein), a Hamburg Grand, and a Vienna Grand. The acoustic simulator adds string resonance, damper resonance, damper noise, key-on and key-off action noise, hammer response, and a lid simulator that models the effect of opening or closing the piano lid. Together these create a three-dimensional piano sound with natural depth and decay. A 6-speaker system (with upward-facing and downward-facing drivers) projects sound the way a real grand does — reflections from above and below the soundboard.
Features and Connectivity
Beyond the pianos, there are 35 tones including electric pianos, organs, strings, and harpsichord. A Concert Play feature lets you play along with orchestra recordings, and dual/split modes allow layering or splitting the keyboard. The three-pedal system supports half-pedaling on the damper and includes a sostenuto pedal. Connectivity includes USB MIDI, headphone outputs, and audio input for playing along with external sources.
Who Is This For?
- Serious pianists who want the closest possible touch to an acoustic grand in a digital format
- Piano students preparing for exams or conservatory who need a high-quality practice instrument
- Home musicians who want a beautiful furniture piece that doubles as a concert-quality instrument
- Acoustic piano owners looking to downsize without sacrificing the playing experience
- Teachers who need a reliable, maintenance-free piano with authentic action
The GP-310 sits at a premium price point, but it delivers an experience that rivals digital pianos costing significantly more. For the ultimate Casio hybrid experience, the GP-510 adds additional speaker power and tonal refinements.
