The Elektron Octatrack MKII is often described as the most powerful hardware sampler ever made — and the most complex. The Octatrack differs from traditional samplers in its approach. Rather than simply triggering one-shots, it streams long samples from Compact Flash storage while processing them through a sophisticated effects engine. Eight audio tracks can each run independent samples with timestretching, pitch-shifting, and slice-based playback. The eight MIDI tracks sequence external gear with Elektron's parameter-lock workflow. Four audio inputs allow live processing of external sources, mixable with internal samples.

The Pickup Machines enable live looping, capturing audio on the fly and immediately manipulating it. Neighbor Machines process the output of adjacent tracks.
