Korg Wavestate MKII

The Korg Wavestate MKII is a 37-key wave sequencing synthesizer that builds on Korg's Wavestation legacy with a modern sound engine. With 96 stereo voices of polyphony, four layers per Performance, and the Wave Sequencing 2.0 engine, it creates evolving, cinematic textures and complex rhythmic patterns that conventional synths can't touch.

Wave Sequencing 2.0

The core innovation is Wave Sequencing 2.0, which lets you independently sequence timing, pitch, shape, and sample selection across separate lanes. Each parameter lane can have a different length and step probability, creating patterns that evolve organically without repeating predictably. A Step Sequencer Lane doubles as a modulation source for driving other parameters from the sequence. The MKII ships with 1,042 Wave Sequences and 799 Programs, plus 261 Performances that layer up to four Programs together.

Effects

Each layer gets its own Pre FX (decimator, guitar amp, compressor, ring modulator, tremolo, wave shaper), Mod FX (chorus, phaser, flanger, wah), and Delay (L/C/R, multiband mod, reverse, stereo/cross, tape echo). Performance-level reverb (early reflections, Overb) and a 4-band parametric EQ sit on top. Up to 14 effects run simultaneously across a Performance.

Filters and Modulation

Filters pull from Korg's catalog: MS-20 lowpass and highpass, Polysix lowpass, plus 2-pole and 4-pole lowpass, highpass, bandpass, band-reject, and multi-filter options. The modulation system provides 3 envelopes, a vector envelope, 3 LFOs, 2 mod processors, 2 key tracks, and the step sequencer lane. A joystick mixes layers and modulates parameters in real time.
