The Sequential OB-6 is a unique collaboration between synth pioneers Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim, merging Sequential's engineering and Oberheim's legendary SEM-inspired sound into a modern analog polysynth. It delivers the punch and presence of classic Oberheim in a reliable, feature-rich instrument.
The sound engine differs fundamentally from its sibling Prophet-6. The continuously variable waveshape oscillators deliver the bright, buzzy character Oberheim is known for, while the 2-pole state-variable filter offers low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch modes. This filter is the key to the OB-6's versatility — from creamy pads to aggressive brassy leads.
Dual discrete VCOs per voice, analog VCAs, and true stereo BBD effects (chorus, delay, phase shifter) keep the entire signal path analog. The digital reverb and 64-step polyphonic sequencer add modern convenience without compromising sound quality.
Like the Prophet-6, the OB-6 features a steel chassis, wood end cheeks, and a semi-weighted keybed with aftertouch. It's built for professional use — touring, recording, and everything in between.
Who Is This For?
The OB-6 suits synthesists who crave that punchy Oberheim character:
- Vintage synth enthusiasts wanting Oberheim sound without vintage maintenance
- Professional keyboardists needing stage-ready analog with presence
- Studio producers looking for an alternative to Prophet-style warmth
- Sound designers who want flexible filter modes (LP, HP, BP, notch)
- Collectors pairing it with a Prophet-6 for complete coverage
Choose the Prophet-6 for warmth and classic Prophet lushness. Choose the OB-6 for punch, bite, and versatile filter character. Many studios have both.
