u-he Hive 2 delivers u-he sound quality in a streamlined, CPU-efficient package. Where Diva prioritizes analog accuracy at any CPU cost, Hive balances quality with efficiency — running multiple instances without breaking a sweat.
Oscillator Engine
Two oscillators offer nine classic waveforms (sine, saw, square, triangle, pulse variants, white and pink noise) plus access to 140 wavetables with four interpolation modes. Wavetables can be split into 16 parts, creating two-dimensional oscillators for complex timbral movement. Each oscillator supports up to 16-voice unison with detune, and three oscillator modes (Normal, Dirty, Clean) shift the tonal character. Sub-oscillators mirror the same nine waveforms with independent tuning up to ±3 octaves.
Filters and Effects
Two multimode filters offer nine types each: the expected low-pass, high-pass, bandpass, and band-reject, plus comb, reverb (tuned resonator), dissonant (metallic inharmonics), sideband (frequency shifting), and peaking. Seven rearrangeable effects — distortion, chorus, delay, phaser, EQ, reverb, and compressor — can all be modulated through the matrix.
Modulation System
The 12-slot modulation matrix (two sources per slot) connects LFOs, envelopes, function generators, and performance controllers to any parameter. Two west-coast-style function generators serve as envelopes, LFOs, slew limiters, or gate generators. An 8-step shape sequencer with four independent outputs adds evolving rhythmic modulation. The arpeggiator includes a 16-step sequencer with real-time recording for melodic patterns.
