The Korg Minilogue XD bridges analog warmth and digital versatility in a compact, affordable polysynth. It pairs a true analog signal path with a digital multi-engine, offering hybrid possibilities that neither pure analog nor digital synths can match alone.
Each of the four voices features two analog VCOs plus the digital multi-engine as a third oscillator. The multi-engine offers three modes: VPM synthesis (similar to FM), wavetables, and user-loadable oscillators via the logue SDK. This extensibility means the XD can grow with downloadable content from Korg and the user community.
The analog 2-pole filter provides smooth, musical sweeps, while the built-in modulation, delay, and reverb effects are high-quality and essential for the XD's cinematic pad sounds. The OLED oscilloscope display shows waveforms in real-time, making sound design educational and visual.
The 16-step polyphonic sequencer enables pattern creation with motion sequencing — recording knob movements for evolving, animated textures. Four voice modes (poly, unison, chord, and arp) expand playing options beyond standard polyphony.
Who Is This For?
The Minilogue XD is ideal for synth explorers who want analog character with digital expansion:
- Beginners looking for an affordable true analog polysynth with depth to grow into
- Sound designers who want the expandable multi-engine for unique textures
- Electronic producers needing pads, leads, and bass in one compact instrument
- Performers who appreciate the responsive sequencer and hands-on controls
- Developers and tinkerers who want to create custom oscillators and effects
For more polyphony, consider the Prologue. For pure analog, look at the original Minilogue. The XD hits a compelling middle ground with its hybrid architecture.
