Native Instruments Absynth 6

Absynth was ahead of its time when it launched, pioneering granular synthesis and morphing capabilities that remain unique today. Native Instruments brought it back in December 2025 with version 6, modernizing the interface while preserving the sonic character that made it a sound design legend.

Synthesis Architecture

The semi-modular architecture offers nine oscillator models across three channels: single and double waveform, FM, ring mod, fractalize, sync granular, sample, granular, and audio input. Each channel feeds through its own filter, modulation, and waveshaping before reaching the master section. The granular engine has quadrupled its maximum grain count from version 5, enabling thicker, richer textures.

Preset Explorer

The new AI-powered Preset Explorer uses a deep-learning model to analyze the timbral traits of every preset, arranging them in a visual nodal map. Click any node and neighboring presets appear as the most similar options. Sliders let you navigate continuously between soft and aggressive, static and evolving. It works with third-party preset libraries too, making the 2,000+ preset library genuinely navigable.

Mutator and Envelopes

The Mutator morphs different presets into entirely new sounds. Lock specific parameters — rhythm, pitch, effects — while randomizing others, then step through a mutation history timeline to find the sweet spot. The envelope system remains Absynth's secret weapon: 28 envelopes with up to 68 breakpoints each, supporting looping, curves, and time-synced transitions that create sounds no other synth can replicate.

Absynth 6 adds full MPE support, surround output up to 8 channels, and runs natively on Apple Silicon.
