The Arturia KeyStep Pro is a sequencer and controller that sits at the centre of a hardware setup. Thirty-seven slim keys with velocity and aftertouch give you a playable keyboard, but the real purpose of the KeyStep Pro is to run other gear — analog synths, drum machines, modular systems — from one central hub.
Four independent polyphonic sequencer tracks each hold up to 16 patterns of 64 steps, with up to 16 notes per step. A separate 24-part drum sequencer handles rhythmic content with polyrhythm support — so melodic and drum sequencing run independently, each at their own length and tempo division. Patterns can be chained into complete song arrangements.
The CV section is where the KeyStep Pro earns its place in modular and semi-modular rigs. Four sets of CV, Gate, and Mod outputs let you sequence four voices of analog hardware simultaneously, with polyphonic CV available. Eight dedicated drum gate outputs connect directly to modular drum voices. MIDI out covers two separate channels, and everything can sync to clock in and out. It is a sequencer that speaks every language a modern studio setup might need.
Recording modes include real-time, step, and probabilistic — the probabilistic option lets steps fire conditionally, introducing controlled variation without manual reprogramming. Chord mode and a seven-mode arpeggiator round out the performance tools.
Who Is This For?
The KeyStep Pro is built for producers and performers who run hardware-centric setups. If you have analog synths, modular gear, or drum machines that you want to sequence from a single controller, this covers all of them simultaneously. It is particularly well-suited to modular users who need CV and gate sequencing alongside MIDI, without buying a dedicated sequencer for each format. The used market price makes it one of the most capable sequencing hubs available at its price point — a central piece that justifies its footprint in any hardware rig.
