The Moog Grandmother is a semi-modular analog synthesizer with the classic Moog sound, a real keyboard, built-in spring reverb, and colorful aesthetics that reference vintage instruments. It's approachable yet expandable — a genuine Moog that works out of the box and grows with you into modular territory.
Sound Engine
Two analog oscillators provide saw, square, triangle, and pulse waveforms. Oscillator 2 adds hard sync for aggressive harmonics. A dedicated analog noise generator feeds the mixer alongside both oscillators. The Moog ladder filter — 24dB low-pass — delivers the signature Moog sweep: rich, warm, and capable of self-oscillation for sine wave bass. The filter envelope is punchy enough for percussive sounds and smooth enough for evolving pads.
Spring Reverb
A real spring reverb tank lives inside the chassis — not a digital simulation, but an actual physical spring unit. The result is analog ambience with the characteristic drip and splash that digital reverbs struggle to recreate. It adds space to leads, atmosphere to pads, and chaos when you bump the unit. It can also process external audio through the patch bay.
Sequencer and Modular Expansion
The built-in arpeggiator and sequencer handle pattern-based composition with multiple modes and clock division. Forty-one patch points allow modular-style signal routing using 3.5mm cables, but the synth works fully without cables — every audio and modulation path is internally normalized. This makes Grandmother both beginner-friendly and expandable into a modular system with Mother-32, DFAM, or Eurorack modules.
Who Is This For?
The Grandmother suits musicians who want real Moog sound with modular flexibility:
- Moog enthusiasts seeking classic tone in a keyboard instrument
- Modular beginners wanting a gateway into semi-modular synthesis
- Keyboardists who need an expressive mono synth with real spring reverb
- Producers after authentic analog bass and lead sounds
- Experimentalists who'll use the 41 patch points to rewire signal flow
